Hi there, Sam from Matter here, and in this video, I'm going to show you how you can celebrate birthdays and work anniversaries inside Slack. More specifically, we're going to walk through date collection options, celebration banners and text options, and also settings for coins and delivery. Great, so celebrations is a very simple feature. All you do is get the dates to Matter and we'll automatically celebrate it for you.
There's a few different ways to get the dates to Matter. We're going to hop inside of the web app, and we're going to go into settings, Celebrations, and in here is where you can customize the settings. You'll have two sections, one for birthdays and one for work anniversaries. These settings are respective to these sections. So one way to get the dates to Matter is by having Matter automatically ask people for you. Simply click the button and Matter will go ahead and send a direct message to people inside of Slack. They'll get a message to go ahead and optionally fill in their month and day. This method is perfect for birthdays, making it self-serve optional.
So if people don't want to celebrate, they don't have to do anything. In addition, we'd recommend enabling auto-collect. This helps it so if a new team member joins the channel, Matter will automatically ask for them. Additionally, we can bulk add in the celebration dates via Excel file upload. Simply click Download Template, open up the Excel file, and then add in the respective celebration dates here in columns D through H. And if you want to adjust the visibility, you can as well in columns I through J. Do not touch any of the user ID, email or full name, neither the name of the tab. Go ahead and save it.
And when you're ready, simply click Upload and upload the file. You'll see a confirmation message if any dates updated as well. And you can also see the number of team members who have added in their respective dates. Great. We're next going to go ahead and talk about the celebration banners. So by default, you'll have the Matter template, which is this beautiful design. If they have a Slack profile photo, we'll pull that in. If you'd like to do your own, you totally can.
Simply click the dropdown and you can either do a custom image upload. This is gonna be the same image every single time. You can crop and design whatever you'd like there. Or if you want, you can do an image URL library. Essentially, you can add up to 10 images here and we'd recommend using Giphy to make it more fun. And so with this option, Matter will go ahead and randomly select one of the options in your image library. You can make this different for birthdays and work anniversaries. Next, we're going to go ahead and talk about rewards.
So with birthdays, it's a flat amount. As for work anniversaries, you can specify based on the year of service. So there is a default amount here, which is set for every non-specified year. And if you want to add for a custom amount, you can do that. Click Add Custom Amount. You can specify the year of service and the coin amount and click Save. So in this scenario, year 1, 2, 3 and 4 would get 200 coins, and year 5 would get 500. Year 6, 7, 8, 9 would be 200 coins as well, and so on.
And then lastly, one thing to note about Matter is that by default, if your celebration date happens to be on a weekend, we'll celebrate it on the previous Friday during the work week. If you want it celebrated on the actual day, you can go ahead and do that as well. So that's pretty much celebrations with Matter. If you have any questions, feel free to message us at hello@matterapp.com, and we'd be more than happy to help. Thanks for watching and bye for now.
