Employee rewards in Slack are a different purchase from recognition in Slack. Recognition is a message; a reward is money, and money brings billing questions: is reward spend separate from the subscription, is there a convenience fee or a prepaid minimum, and does the recipient redeem inside Slack or in a portal with its own login. Those answers decide what a rewards app really costs.
Slack has no built-in rewards feature, so every option here is a third-party app, and the meaningful split is between apps that run the whole loop inside Slack and connectors that post a notification and send people elsewhere. Our recognition roundups judge these vendors on how well they prompt appreciation; this page judges them on what happens after the kudos lands.

The short version
Matter, Bonusly, Nectar, Awardco, Assembly, and Kudos all let people give inside Slack. Matter and Bonusly also let people redeem without leaving Slack; the other four redeem in their web apps. Snappy is a gifting connector: campaigns are built in its dashboard and Slack carries the notification. For published pricing and rewards billed only when someone redeems, Matter and Bonusly are the self-serve picks. For an Amazon-backed catalog and service awards, Awardco is the stronger fit. Nectar and Kudos are sales-led and suit larger teams with a procurement process.

How we evaluated these rewards apps
We build Matter, which runs recognition, rewards, celebrations, and surveys natively inside Slack and Microsoft Teams, so read our take on our own product with that in mind. For every other app we read the vendor's pricing page, Slack integration page or Marketplace listing, and help center, and pulled named G2 reviews. Most of these products we have not used hands-on, so we rely on published materials and named reviewers. Pricing and availability were verified in September 2026 against each vendor's own pricing page and app listing; ratings are from G2 as of September 2026.
Five criteria: whether giving and redeeming happen inside Slack; how rewards are funded and billed, including fees and minimums; catalog reach by country and reward type; the allowance model and what happens to unspent points; and the admin load to install and run it.
One number shaped the weighting. In The Recognition Habit, Matter’s 2026 Benchmark Report, habit teams redeem 78% of earned coins vs 27% for everyone else, the median redemption is $30, and 40% are under $25. Small and frequent beats large and rare, so redemption path and reset cadence carry real weight below. The same report finds that almost half of teams (46%) send their first recognition within 15 minutes of setup, 1 in 3 within 5 minutes, and the figures are identical on Slack and Teams. More is at matterapp.com/research.
What to look for in rewards apps for Slack
- Native redemption vs connector. Some apps let people claim a gift card from a Slack Home tab; others link to a portal with its own login, and every extra login is a place where rewards go unclaimed.
- How the reward budget is billed. Is reward spend separate from the subscription, is there a convenience fee, and is a prepaid minimum the only way to avoid it? Several vendors publish nothing.
- Catalog reach. Count countries, not brands. A catalog that is deep in the United States and thin elsewhere excludes the people you most need to include.
- Allowance resets. Monthly budgets invite a month-end dump; weekly resets keep amounts small and giving frequent. The cadence shapes behavior more than the catalog does.
- Who can install it. Slack admins control who can add apps, and several rewards apps add their own gate, such as requiring a Slack super admin. On Enterprise Grid, check whether the app can be managed across workspaces from one place.
The best rewards apps for Slack in 2026
1. Matter
Matter is a recognition and rewards app native to Slack and Microsoft Teams. We build it, so weigh this entry accordingly. Kudos, rewards, celebrations, and surveys happen inside Slack with no separate login, user management syncs from the connected channel, and setup takes about two minutes. Matter installs in public, private, shared, and Slack Connect channels and supports Slack Enterprise Grid.
Feedback Friday™ (US Patent 12,199,935) prompts the team weekly; give-coins reset weekly, earned coins never expire. People redeem coins from inside Slack for 10,000+ eGift card options across 200+ countries, company swag (print-on-demand or self-fulfillment), or custom rewards you define, like a day off.
Standout strength: The billing model. Rewards are billed only when an admin approves a redemption, prepaid or pay-as-you-go, and custom rewards cost nothing. No convenience fee, no prepaid minimum, and predictable spend without a points liability on the books. Matter hasn't raised prices in 8 years.
Watch out for: Rewards, swag, and challenges need Pro; the Free plan and Basic cover kudos, celebrations, and reporting but not the catalog. Surveys are a paid add-on, HRIS sync is an Enterprise item, and analytics are lighter than dedicated enterprise suites. The reviews on G2 give the unfiltered version.
Pricing: Free plan for unlimited users. Basic is $1 per user/month, billed annually. Pro, which includes rewards, is $3 per user/month, billed annually. Surveys add-on $2 per user/month, billed annually. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, no credit card, and you are billed only for members of the connected channel. Verified September 2026 on Matter’s pricing page.
Best for: Small and mid-size teams that live in Slack and want giving, redeeming, and billing in one native app at a published price.
2. Bonusly
Bonusly is the most established points-based app in the category, and its Slack app is a full experience: a guided /give command, a /bonusly balance command, and a Home tab where people shop for rewards without leaving Slack. Everyone gets a monthly allowance of points to hand out.
Standout strength: Give, shop, and announcements all live inside Slack, and the free tier for up to 8 users includes the Slack integration. Bonusly holds 4.7 across 7,378 reviews on G2.
Watch out for: Rewards are billed separately from the subscription. Bonusly's help center lists pay-as-you-go with an 8% convenience fee, a Flex prepaid balance of $200 and up with a 5% fee, and a Fixed prepayment of $2,500 or higher with no fee. Bianca B., an onboarding specialist, noted in July 2026 that “The monthly points can run out quickly, especially if you want to recognize several teammates.”
Pricing: Free for up to 8 users. Team + Bizy is $5 per user/month, Team without the Bizy assistant is $3 per user/month or $30 per user paid annually, and Organization is custom pricing. A free trial of 30 days is offered on Team. Verified September 2026.
Best for: Mid-size companies that want a points economy with a large catalog and can fund rewards on top of seats. See our Bonusly vs. Matter comparison.
3. Nectar
Nectar packages recognition with internal comms, and its Slack integration covers the giving half well: shoutouts go out through Slack commands, shortcuts, or @Nectar, land in the channels you choose, and comments and reactions sync both ways. Redemption is a click-through to the Nectar web app.
Standout strength: Breadth and scale, with 4.7 across 8,626 reviews on G2, one of the largest review bases in the category.
Watch out for: No public pricing; every tier routes to a demo. Group shoutouts, challenge approvals, and GIFs do not post to Slack, and removing the app needs a workspace owner or admin. Shelby H., a senior manager in people strategy, wrote in August 2026 that reporting “could be more robust.”
Pricing: Not published. Tiers are Nectar Recognize alone or bundled with Nectar Engage, Nectar Comms, or Nectar Flows, all quoted through sales. Verified September 2026.
Best for: Mid-size to large companies that want recognition and comms in one contract and are fine with a sales-led purchase. Our Nectar vs. Matter comparison goes deeper.
4. Awardco
Awardco is a rewards-first platform built around an Amazon-backed catalog. In Slack, people type /recognize or click Recognize Someone, and the recognition feed publishes to one or more channels. Points are redeemed in the Awardco platform, alongside service awards and a branded company store.
Standout strength: Catalog reach through Amazon and a 4.9 across 6,378 reviews on G2, the highest here.
Watch out for: No per-user price is published, and reward spend is separate from the platform fee. Justin F., a support service manager, wrote in August 2026 that he wanted “some reminders that my awarding points are gonna expire because I don't seem to get any emails from Awardco.”
Pricing: Companies with 100 employees or fewer can contact sales for flexible packages starting at $3,000; everything else, including the A-Pay card and Company Store add-ons, is quoted. No free trial. Verified September 2026.
Best for: Mid-size to enterprise organizations that want Amazon-backed rewards and service awards under one contract. See our Awardco vs. Matter comparison.
5. Assembly
Assembly, now Assembly by Quantum Workplace after a January 2026 acquisition, bundles recognition, milestones, a global reward catalog, and budget controls into one plan. Its Slack chat app lets people give and view recognition from Slack; the catalog and analytics live in the web app.
Standout strength: One printed price covers the catalog, challenges, and people analytics. Assembly rates 4.8 across 4,188 reviews on G2.
Watch out for: Only an Assembly admin who is also a Slack super admin can install the Slack app, and email addresses must match between the two. Reward funding is not described on the pricing page. Breanna C., a service desk analyst, wrote in February 2025 that “It's a little hard to find people sometimes. I have to type in almost their whole name.”
Pricing: Empower is $3 per user / month (billed yearly); Enterprise is contact sales. No free plan and no trial length printed. Verified September 2026.
Best for: Mid-size teams that want an all-in-one bundle at a flat per-user price. See our Assembly vs. Matter comparison.
6. Kudos
Kudos is a values-driven recognition platform for mid-size and enterprise organizations. The /Kudos command opens a dialog where you pick the recipient, write the message, choose a level of recognition, and attach up to two Kudos Qualities. Rewards and program settings live in the Kudos web platform.
Standout strength: Levels and values tagging on every message, with 4.8 across 3,076 reviews on G2.
Watch out for: Kudos publishes no pricing page; it provides “a detailed proposal outlining the scope of the program,” so reward funding and catalog terms arrive with the proposal. Tonni R., an independent living skills trainer, wrote in August 2026 that the web app “gets very laggy when I try to type long messages.”
Pricing: Quote-based; request a demo. No free plan or trial published. Verified September 2026.
Best for: Larger organizations that want levelled, values-tagged recognition through a sales process. Our Kudos vs. Matter comparison covers the differences.
7. Snappy
Snappy is a gifting platform, not a recognition program. HR builds a campaign in the Snappy dashboard with a budget per gift from $5 to $15,000; recipients get a Slack notification, pick a gift from a curated collection, and enter shipping details. There is no peer kudos or points economy.
Standout strength: Recipient-choice gifting to 176+ countries with unlimited users on the free Essential tier, and 4.8 across 313 reviews on G2.
Watch out for: Slack delivery is only on Elevated and Enterprise, and the platform fee is separate from gift spend. Jesus Alberto G., an admissions specialist, wrote in September 2026 that “the timing response is something they need to work on, particularly with customer service.”
Pricing: Essential is free with unlimited users; Elevated is $2,000 per year; Enterprise is quoted. Gift notifications directly in Slack appear on Elevated and Enterprise only. Verified September 2026.
Best for: People teams sending occasion-based physical gifts at scale, alongside a separate recognition tool.
What it actually takes to get started
Installing a rewards app is a two-permission problem. Slack controls who may add apps, which on a standard workspace defaults to admins with an approval queue for everyone else; on Enterprise Grid, org admins can approve an app once for every workspace or leave it to each one. Then the vendor adds its own gate: Assembly needs an installer who is both an Assembly admin and a Slack super admin, and Nectar needs a workspace owner or admin to remove the app.
The second half is money. Matter and Bonusly let you connect the app and start giving before any budget exists; funding is a separate step at the first approved redemption or when you prepay. Nectar, Awardco, and Kudos start with a sales conversation, and Snappy needs the Elevated tier before Slack delivery exists. None of the seven requires an HRIS to launch; Matter has 250+ HRIS integrations available on Enterprise, and no HRIS project is required because user management syncs from Slack or Teams. Matter's rewards training for Slack walks through funding, approvals, and coin settings.
More than 3 in 4 teams that start recognizing on Matter send their first kudos within 24 hours of signing up. Whichever app you choose, watch two numbers in the first two weeks: time to first reward and the share of earned points redeemed.
How to choose the right rewards app for your team
Start with size and how you buy. Under about 200 people you want published pricing and no minimum: Matter or Bonusly, and Bonusly's free tier is the better fit for a team of 8 or fewer. Between 200 and 1,000, Assembly's flat plan is worth a look, and Matter's Pro plan wins if the priority is billing only on approved redemptions. Above 1,000, or if procurement expects a demo and an annual contract, Nectar, Awardco, and Kudos are built for that motion.
Then match the catalog to the people. For global and distributed teams, Matter's 10,000+ eGift card options across 200+ countries and Snappy's 176+ shipping countries are the broadest published figures here. If the program is mostly formal awards with Amazon as the destination, Awardco is the better pick, and for physical, recipient-choice gifts Snappy beats any points app.
Finally, decide how the allowance should behave. A monthly budget (Bonusly, Awardco) accumulates toward bigger rewards and invites a month-end spend; a weekly reset (Matter) keeps recognition small and frequent, which is what the redemption data rewards. Ask every vendor what happens to unspent points and what a $25 gift card costs all-in.
Frequently asked questions about rewards apps for Slack
Does Slack have a built-in rewards feature?
No. Slack has emoji reactions but no native points, gift card, or rewards feature. Every rewards program in Slack runs on a third-party app. Some apps let people give and redeem inside Slack; others post a notification and send people to a web portal to redeem.
Can employees redeem rewards without leaving Slack?
With some apps, yes. Matter lets people redeem coins for gift cards, swag, and custom rewards from inside Slack, and Bonusly lets people shop from its Slack Home tab. Nectar, Awardco, Assembly, and Kudos post recognition in Slack but redeem in their web apps, and Snappy recipients choose their gift on Snappy's site.
How are employee rewards billed on top of the subscription?
It varies, and pricing pages rarely say. Matter bills rewards only when an admin approves a redemption, prepaid or pay-as-you-go, with no fee. Bonusly bills rewards separately with an 8% convenience fee on pay-as-you-go, 5% on a Flex prepaid balance, and no fee on a Fixed prepayment of $2,500 or more. Awardco, Nectar, and Kudos quote reward funding through sales, and Snappy charges a platform fee separately from gift spend.
What is the cheapest Slack rewards app with published pricing?
Bonusly is free for up to 8 users and its Team plan starts at $3 per user/month, with rewards funded separately. Matter has a Free plan for unlimited users, and rewards start on Pro at $3 per user/month, billed annually, with a 14-day free trial. Assembly's Empower plan is $3 per user / month (billed yearly). Nectar, Awardco, and Kudos do not publish per-user prices.
Should reward points reset weekly or monthly?
Weekly resets keep each reward small and giving frequent; monthly budgets let points accumulate toward larger rewards but invite a month-end spend. Matter's benchmark data shows habit teams redeem far more of what they earn and that the median redemption is $30, which favors the small, frequent model for most teams.
The bottom line
The best Slack app for employee rewards is the one where the reward gets claimed: redemption inside Slack, a catalog that reaches every country you employ in, and billing you can explain in one sentence. Matter and Bonusly are the self-serve picks; Awardco is the pick for Amazon-backed formal awards; Nectar and Kudos fit sales-led purchases; Snappy covers the physical gift moments the others do not.
