Recognition on Slack has a shape of its own. The apps that do it well let someone give kudos in the channel where the work happened, with an emoji or a slash command, and never send anyone to a separate portal. Slack also has a niche Microsoft Teams lacks: PrizeBot and OpenCulture are Slack-only, and small independent apps like Karma and Evergreen rarely make a Teams shortlist.
Two Slack details decide how smoothly a rollout goes. The first is who can install apps: workspace owners and admins choose whether members can add apps themselves or must submit a request, and on Slack Enterprise Grid an org-level admin usually approves an app once for every workspace. The second is reach: if you work with clients in Slack Connect channels or run several workspaces on Enterprise Grid, ask whether the app follows you there, because most vendor pages say nothing about either. How we evaluated these recognition apps
We build Matter, recognition software native to Slack and Microsoft Teams, so read our take on our own product with that in mind. Every other app was assessed from the vendor’s pricing page, Slack listing or integration docs, and named G2 reviews; most we have not used hands-on, so we rely on what each vendor publishes. We scored each app on five criteria: whether recognition is given natively in Slack or only mirrored there; login model and membership sync; admin overhead to install and run it; what breaks at Enterprise Grid or Slack Connect scale; and pricing transparency. Pricing and availability were verified in September 2026 against each vendor’s own pricing page and app listing; ratings are from G2 as of September 2026.
Our own data shapes what we weight most. In The Recognition Habit, Matter’s 2026 Benchmark Report, teams that build recognition around a weekly ritual give about 2.5x more recognition per member than ad hoc teams, and roughly 8 in 10 ritual teams stay active in nearly every month. What to look for in recognition apps for Slack
A Slack logo on a vendor’s integrations page can mean a full in-channel experience or a bot that posts a link. These questions separate the two.
- Native give, not a notification. Can someone recognize a teammate with an emoji or a command and be done, or does a browser tab open to finish?
- Who can install it. If your workspace restricts installs, a member cannot add most of these apps alone, and Assembly requires a Slack super admin.
- Enterprise Grid and Slack Connect. Matter and HeyTaco state Enterprise Grid support, and Matter also names Slack Connect channels. The other vendors here are silent, which means ask before you sign.
- How rewards are funded. Gift-card points are billed separately from seats almost everywhere; Bonusly adds convenience fees below a prepay threshold, and PrizeBot expects your admin to fulfil prizes by hand.
- Slack-only or both. PrizeBot exists only on Slack, which is fine if Slack is permanent and a migration if a merger brings Teams.

2. HeyTaco
HeyTaco has the simplest give flow here: mention a teammate with a taco emoji and a message in the channel where it happened. Tacos feed leaderboards and a Taco Shop, and the vendor states Slack Enterprise Grid support, including organization-wide deployment, SSO, and recognition across connected workspaces. It runs on Teams too.
Standout strength: Zero learning curve, and billing only for people who give or receive a taco. HeyTaco holds a 4.7 on G2 across 723 reviews; Mariana D. (April 2026) called it “such a simple but effective way to recognize hard work and motivate the team to give their best every day.”
Watch out for: The daily allowance can become a routine. Ricardo Alan V. (April 2026) described “a sad race of which person automacally gives their 5 tacos everyday.” No free plan, and no Slack Connect statement.

Bonusly is the points-and-catalog model at scale. In Slack, the /give command opens a guided flow, a Home tab shows feed and balance, and you can shop for rewards without leaving Slack. Monthly points allowances convert to a large catalog.
Standout strength: Maturity: 4.7 on G2 across 7,378 reviews. Aisxhel T. (July 2026): “The seamless integration with tools like Slack also makes recognition quick and meaningful instead of feeling like another administrative task.”
Watch out for: Rewards are billed separately, with convenience fees of 8% on pay-as-you-go and 5% on Flex prepaid unless you prepay $2,500 or more. Bianca B. 4. Assembly
Assembly joined Quantum Workplace in January 2026 and, per its own announcement, continues to operate as before. Its Slack chat app lets team members give and view recognition directly from Slack, and one plan bundles milestones, announcements, awards and challenges, a global reward catalog, and people analytics.
Standout strength: One flat price for the whole bundle, and a 4.8 on G2 across 4,188 reviews. Michael N. (March 2025): “I really enjoy the little things which give a positive spin on a day at work.”
Watch out for: Only an Assembly admin who is also a Slack super admin can set up the Slack integration, and email addresses must match in both systems. Breanna C. (February 2025): “It's a little hard to find people sometimes. I have to type in almost their whole name.” The Slack Marketplace listing still says free; the pricing page shows no free plan.

5. Karma
Karma is the lightweight option: send points directly in Slack with quick commands, with gift-card rewards automated behind them and no extra accounts. A Microsoft Teams version uses the same command model.

Watch out for: Only 37 G2 reviews, and billing is based on the number of members in your Slack workspace, so inactive members may count; Ilva M. (April 2026): “Sometimes it can feel a bit superficial, people might give '++' out of habit rather than for meaningful contributions.”

6. Evergreen
Evergreen calls itself the only peer-to-peer recognition software that plants trees for a job well done. Each member gets 12 seeds a month to give in public channel posts tagged to company values, and the seeds become trees the company plants. It is available on Slack and Microsoft Teams.
Standout strength: Recognition with a built-in sustainability story, and a 4.8 on G2 across 119 reviews. Renuga E. (March 2026): “For every recognition we are giving the seeds to plant, this concept inspiring me lot.”
Watch out for: No cash or gift-card rewards. The pricing page says you pay only for active users, but Laurel S. (August 2024) reported that once someone uses it or is recognized, “they are on the payroll forever, regardless of their usage,” so ask how billing behaves.

7. PrizeBot
PrizeBot turns Slack into a rewards program with emoji recognition, a prize shop, raffles, a spin wheel, and birthday and anniversary celebrations. Mention a coworker with the reward emoji in any public channel PrizeBot is in, the points land, and redemptions drop into a queue your admin fulfils by hand. It is Slack-only.
Standout strength: The lowest published price here, everything included, and only users who give or receive rewards are counted.
Watch out for: Prizes are whatever you supply and fulfil; there is no gift-card catalog. We found no G2 listing and no Slack Marketplace listing as of September 2026, so there is no independent review record and the install starts on the vendor’s site.
Pricing: A flat $2 per active user/month, billed monthly; free trial of 30 days, no credit card. Verified September 2026.
Best for: Small Slack-only teams that want gamified recognition and will hand out prizes themselves.
What it actually takes to get started
Setup time is rarely the bottleneck: Matter installs in about two minutes and HeyTaco and Karma are similar. Permission is the bottleneck. Where members can install apps, anyone can add most of these tools and give the first recognition the same afternoon; where approval is required, a workspace owner or admin has to approve the request first, which can take a day or a quarter. On Enterprise Grid, an org-level admin approves apps for the whole organization and the app must handle multiple workspaces; Matter and HeyTaco say they do. Assembly adds its own gate: the installing admin must be a Slack super admin.

Start with team size and budget, then decide how much program you want around the kudos. Under 50 people and want recognition running today: Matter’s Free plan or HeyTaco’s trial gets you there without a purchase order, and PrizeBot is the pick if your team likes raffles and an admin will mail the prizes. Between 50 and 500 people and want points that accumulate toward gift cards: Bonusly’s model fits better than Matter’s weekly reset, and Assembly’s flat bundle is the simplest budget line in the category. Larger than that, or buying through procurement: sales-led platforms like Nectar and Workhuman, covered on our Teams page, fit better, and you should plan for a demo rather than a trial.
Then check the platform edge cases. Remote and hybrid teams that span several workspaces or work with clients in Slack Connect should shortlist only apps that state Enterprise Grid and Slack Connect support.
